World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a key aspect of preparing your character. Upgrades boost damage to items and the ability to enchant.

They also provide bonuses and enhancements. The Blacksmith can also sell them to you.

The upgrade button is located on any item. Each recycled item adds one level to the upgrade gauge.

Weapon

When a weapon gets upgraded, it will gain an initial damage bonus as well as a scaling factor which affects other stats. Certain upgrade components have cosmetic effects, while others offer additional benefits. These upgrades can be slotted into armor, weapons, trinkets and gathering tools. Most require that the equipment has an upgrade slot that is available and meet certain requirements. A weapon can also be upgraded to include a Calibration attribute that improves certain stats, for example Weakspot damage or Crit Rate. This can be done through the Gear Workbench's interaction menu. Based on the level of the weapon it can be done up to four times.

Once the weapon is at the maximum level of upgrade, it may be reforged using a variety of different types of upgrades to increase certain stats or add bonuses and effects. These upgrades can all be applied at once and their effects will differ based on how rare the weapon is.

There are two Blacksmiths in the game who can perform these upgrades: Blacksmith Hewg in the Church of Elleh hub area as well as Smithing Master Iji on the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Both require different upgrade materials: Smithing Stones for standard weapons and Somber Smithing Stones for modifying the damage a weapon can cause.

In general, it's advisable to improve your weapon's damage first. Then, you can upgrade your armour defense and, finally, the secondary stats that are required by your build. The second attempt would result in a new Dragonscale armor that has an initial defense of 67-77, and so on.

When you find a trinket that needs to be upgraded put it in the Anvil to upgrade it. This will have an effect on the trinket that is random, either increasing or strengthening its effects. You can reforge the Trinket as often as you'd like but it will always have an effect that is new.

You can also improve your Trinkets by putting them in a Magical Catalyst located at the Alchemy Station. This will cost you 6 energy and boost the trinket's power by just a little.
