Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad and operating in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. Toto saw North America as a growth market for Washlet's bidets and toilets, as opposed to its "base" markets of Japan and 토토 꽁머니 China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure that the next generation could read the words. However, many of the words were being replaced by foreign ones, such as dui from Bengali for verandah.

Origins

Established in 1917, Toto's early years were a mirror of Japan's economic development. In the first half, Toto produced products to meet the demands for modern, brand new urban housing. It was the first tunnel kiln in the country to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, which allows for more efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding overseas in the latter part of the 1980s to take advantage of new markets and sales opportunities. It created the Cera Trading Company, importing and selling other products from other manufacturers to complement its own range of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy helped increase sales and increased the company's market share in the world.

In the 1990s, Toto had shifted its emphasis on research and development for household appliances that use water. It also improved its distribution system to better meet the needs of customers and to increase profits. The company used the same just-in-time approach to its supply chain management as well as sales program. This led to a higher level of satisfaction of customers.

Toto has continued to innovate on the toilet technology. Its most recent toilet, for example, has a powerful tornado flush that is more environmentally green than traditional toilets. The company also makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green purchasing policy. Toto also manufactures bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with greater energy efficiency than conventional models.

The first Toto museum opened in the year 2015. It hosts exhibits on the most iconic products of Toto, their evolution, the group companies (all of which are made of ceramics) as well as the history of plumbing, and other products like bath units. In an additional gallery, you can view Toto products that are sold across the world. The museum even has a bathroom that features a WASHLET toilet and other toilet-related innovations.

Before forming Toto members of the group performed session work for various musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all performed on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also performed on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in aftermath of drug-related charges. However, the band continued as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Despite the chaos, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. The band managed to release an album that was chart-topping, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. The album was the last of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing ability to play was evident in the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. The group released their new studio album a few months after and then embarked on a world tour to help promote it. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began looking through old tapes and demos to discover songs that hadn't been recorded prior to. It was completed as a double-album titled Then and Now in 2001. The group's fourth album, Old Is New was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis, which restricted his singing capabilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes and the other members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility of formally restructuring the band.
