Upgrades give you boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an Best item upgrader by 3. Each upgrade items also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrades upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item level upgrade's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader kit upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
