WoW Upgrades - The item upgrading Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item upgrade slot, and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through various methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies even if the items come from a different set of gear.

Crests

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
