WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also increased with every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item level upgrade upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item upgrading from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which displays an image of the item at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade item discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with some new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level for an item upgrading in an armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will be less expensive, even if they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
