To fix a sagging lever door handle, you will need to locate the detent access hole or pin, which is usually a small round or rectangle shaped hole or protruding pin located on one side of the base plate. Once you have located the detent access hole or pin, you are able to remove it with a screwdriver.

There are many reasons why door handles of levers droop. The most common cause is that the fixings have been over tightened and are putting strain on the lever bearing and causing it to pull against the door face. It is also possible that the levers have not been operated at a right angle, which causes compression of the latch mechanism and prevents it from fully springing into action.

Another common cause is that the sprung lever is not working properly. This is typically due to the spring not being in the right position within the backplate. To check whether the handle has returned to horizontal, simply move it.

If the door handles aren't tight, it is essential to spot the issue fast, as this could lead to excessive wear on the screws and eventually to the handle falling off of the base plate.
