Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're looking for a buggy to run with or just a compact stroller for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight areas.

If you are looking for a smooth ride on your pram, choose models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. They are, however, susceptible to punctures. Make sure you have an repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Figures have just been released showing that the three-wheeled buggy - that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom - is in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, which are more versatile and easy to drive while still looking fashionable.

The larger the wheels are the better your buggy will cope with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it much easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with an infant as well as a child who was 3 years old and found it to be extremely sturdy. It was able to handle grass, cobbles and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres, which are inflatable and need to be pumped regularly and have a suspension built-in. This was very comfortable for my children.

Another thing to take into consideration is the size and shape. You want the seat to be large enough to allow your child to feel comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer a lie-flat option that lets your child face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and walking in muddy areas. This buggy can be used as a single from birth and then adapts to take two children when your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers from age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large padded seat unit. Storage options are also a plus with a large storage basket, zip pockets on the hood, and an attractive pouch at the rear of seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels mean that your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain - perfect for buggies that are off-road. They also allow you to navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that help you navigate around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This also helps if you bump into the roots of a tree or stray road, as the front wheel will lift up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheel stroller for newborn wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres, which allows them to tackle a broad range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures and you'll need an repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo lux are among our favorite 3-wheelers. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which according to her "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles", and can easily move up and down kerbs. The buggies also have a suspension that Kath says "smooths out bumps extremely effectively".

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite wide, and they may be a challenge to fit into tight spaces. This is an issue if you're using it as a jogger or you need to to get through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. Many models have compact folding options, which allow you to remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to manoeuvre

A three-wheeled buggy is easier to maneuver with children. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to move, making them ideal for difficult terrain like cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheeled buggies wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain, with the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed by how well it coped with bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on a rough terrain."

The only downside to this amazing maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel bassinet stroller-wheel buggy may make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to be aware of when you live in a city. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeled buggy could be the better option for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars will protect your child from bumps and scrapes when they are out and out and about. They are simple and quick to install and make your child feel secure and safe when out in the city or tackling tough terrain.

Designed to complement the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar has a soft and cushioned surface that provides a comfortable spot for your child to hang to during walks. It provides the lowest center of gravity at the ideal height for your baby and also delivering an excellent weight distribution to facilitate kerb pop (it requires less effort to push the buggy over and up a curb than you might think). MFM reviewer Kath discovered that it was able to cope well with grass and cobbles and it's a good option for jogging thanks to its lockable swivel front wheel and air-filled tyres.

Comfort

A 3 wheeler strollers-wheel buggy is the ideal off-road vehicle for handling and performance. This type of buggy is simple to steer and turns in a flash thanks to its perfect geometry engineering, as well as weight distribution.

The sport's clever design puts the fabric sling seat inside the frame, instead of on top like modular seats. This lets it have lower center of gravity, which means it is more comfortable to push, has a lighter curb-pop (you will not need to put in much effort to push the buggy's hood over a curb) and also provides better balance and stability. And with the huge rear wheels measuring 16 inches, lockable swivel front wheel and air filled tyres that require only occasional pumping to give you a bump free ride over rough terrain and a smoother, more comfortable jog.

The only stroller in our collection that has a parent-facing seat that can also accommodate an infant car seat or carrycot, you can ensure your family's future is secure and enjoy every adventure beginning from the first day and for many years to come!
