Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're looking for a buggy to jog with or just a stroller that can be used for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight spaces.

For a smooth ride, go for a pram with air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies, that emblem of the noughties, which had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider range of terrain, yet still look elegant and easy to push.

The larger the wheels are the better your buggy will cope with bumpy and uneven pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front, make it easier to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 year old and found it was able to withstand grass, cobbles rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require periodic pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my children.

Another thing to consider is the size and shape. You will want it to be large enough for your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline to allow them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies have a lie-flat option that lets your child face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.

A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with the speed at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.

Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. However, they are prone to punctures so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare inner tube, and pump on hand.

The drawback of having larger wheels is that they make buggies quite large and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you plan to use it for jogging or have to squeeze through doorways that are narrow when traveling. Luckily, most models have compact folding options that let you remove the front wheels to create more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the primary benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it is much more maneuverable particularly with a child in the back. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for challenging terrain such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a lightest 3 wheel stroller wheeler with her infant and toddler and said: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also awed by how well it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or on uneven ground."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3-wheel buggy may make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you need to be aware of when your home is a city. If this is the case, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.
