If you're looking for a buggy to jog with or just a stroller that can be used for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight spaces.

For a smooth ride, go for a pram with air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies, that emblem of the noughties, which had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider range of terrain, yet still look elegant and easy to push.

The larger the wheels are the better your buggy will cope with bumpy and uneven pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front, make it easier to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 year old and found it was able to withstand grass, cobbles rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require periodic pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my children.

Another thing to consider is the size and shape. You will want it to be large enough for your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline to allow them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies have a lie-flat option that lets your child face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.

A great choice for tackling off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is ideal for a single child from birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth to age 4 and includes a bumper and raincover, a new 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. The storage options are good as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets in the hood, and an attractive pouch at the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with a greater diameter

Larger wheels mean your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also make it easier to move the pushchair around tight spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with the speed at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.

Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. However, they are prone to punctures so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare inner tube, and pump on hand.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are among our top 3 Wheeled Pushchair-wheelers. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which she claims "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to move up and down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that in her words "smoothes out bumps extremely effectively".

The drawback of having larger wheels is that they make buggies quite large and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you plan to use it for jogging or have to squeeze through doorways that are narrow when traveling. Luckily, most models have compact folding options that let you remove the front wheels to create more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the primary benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it is much more maneuverable particularly with a child in the back. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for challenging terrain such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a lightest 3 wheel stroller wheeler with her infant and toddler and said: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also awed by how well it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or on uneven ground."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3-wheel buggy may make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you need to be aware of when your home is a city. If this is the case, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars are a great way to protect your child from bumps and scrapes when out and out and about. These bumper bars are easy to install and will allow your child to feel secure and safe while out and out and about.

Created to match the sleek lines of the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar has a soft and cushioned surface that offers an ideal place for your child to hang to when walking. The robust construction and sturdy design will ensure that your child is able to enjoy strolling around town without having to worry about falling or leaning forward.

The sling is stowed within the frame, not on top like the seat that is modular. This provides a lower centre of gravity for your infant at the ideal height, and also delivers excellent weight distribution to make it easier to push over curbs (it is much easier to push the stroller up and over than you may think). MFM reviewer Kath discovered that it was able to cope well with cobbles and grass and is a great option for jogging with its lockable swivel front wheel that can be locked and air-filled tyres.

With a chic and sophisticated look this bumper bar will surely attract attention wherever you go. It's available in a variety of colours and finishes to fit your style. It has a simple, quick-release mechanism that makes it easy to remove and install the bumper bar when needed. Furthermore, the bumper bar is easy to clean and is made of durable materials that are easy to clean. This makes it a great option for families who want a stylish and safe stroller accessory.

Comfort

A 3 wheel stroller with car seat-wheel buggy provides the highest level of agility and performance when driving off road. With perfect geometry, engineering and weight distribution this type of buggy can turn on a dime and be a breeze to steer using just one hand. Mountain Buggies meet the same rigorous global stability standards and tests as 4-wheel buggies.

The clever design of the Sport places the fabric sling seat inside the frame, not over it like modular seats. This lets it have lower center of gravity, which means it is easier to push, has a lighter curb-pop (you will not need to put in the same effort to raise the buggy's hood over a curb) and provides better balance and stability. With the 16" rear wheels, the lockable front wheel, and tyres that are air-filled which allow for an easier, more comfortable jogging.

The only all-terrain stroller in our collection that has a parent-facing seat which can also accept an infant car seat or carrycot, you are able to make sure your family is prepared for every adventure starting beginning from the first day and for many years to be!

Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also adored the spaciousness of this buggy. There's a huge, easily accessible basket that's quite spacious for a buggy of this size and there's a handy zipped pouch on the back of the seat unit, and even two smaller mesh pockets under the hood to store your keys and phone.
