John L. Sullivan (born Oct. 15, 1858, Roxbury, Mass., U.S.—died Feb. 2, 1918, Abington, Mass.) was an American professional boxer, one of the most popular heavyweight champions and a symbol of the bareknuckle era of boxing.

Tyson was someone who used this style due to being smaller than almost all of his opponents. He’d immediately take away their advantage of range by walking straight to his opponents and getting in close. Boxers, such as Marvis Frazier, just couldn’t cope.

The division today is doing its history proud by being undoubtedly the second most entertaining and anticipated 8 division champion boxing in the sport, only behind the heavyweights. Today bright young stars such as Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Tank Davis and Vasiliy Lomachenko fight out for all four belts which are currently held by Devin Haney.

The lightweight division has a rich history and continues to produce exciting fights with skilled fighters. Fans can expect to witness fast-paced and technical battles when watching matches in the lightweight boxing weight class.

He failed his first audition for greatness, losing out to the brilliant Fidel LaBarba over ten in 1928, but the following year he reversed the decision in a narrow decision that reads like a fight which could have turned either way. Their 1930 contest was closer still, a draw, but splitting a three fight series with LaBarba is certainly no shame and it made him.

Whichever decision is made, the overweight fighter is typically penalized in some way, such as a reduction in the fight purse or even a fine. If the bout turns into a non-title fight, the overweight boxer becomes ineligible to win the title should they emerge victorious in the match.
