Who Will Terence Crawford Fight Next

"Like I said before, I only dreamed of being a world champion," Crawford says. "I’m an overachiever. Nobody believed in me when I was coming up, but I made everybody a believer. I want to thank Spence and his team because without him none of this would have been possible."

After Saturday’s main event, Madrimov said he felt he had done enough to win, while the 29-year-old’s promoter Eddie Hearn called the fight a "waste of time", bemoaning a lack of "respect from the judges". But while Madrimov competed impressively, especially considering his relative lack of pro experience, Crawford’s ability to increase his output and find the target in the later phases of the fight proved decisive.

In fact, Spence's victory over Ugas marks his only fight since beating Danny Garcia in December 2020 after he was forced to withdraw from a prospective meeting with Pacquiao in August 2021 due to a retinal tear to his left eye.

The finish started with a standing lead elbow up the middle. Barberena followed that with boxing combinations around Lawler's guard, which backed him up to the fence. Barberena continued to unload on Lawler until the referee stopped the fight.

Three other fights have been announced for the event with WBA junior welterweight champion Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz taking on Jose "Rayo" Valenzuela, former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. facing Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller, and Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares meeting for a third time in their career despite neither having fought since 2022.

Spence beat Kell Brook in 2017 for the IBF belt and Shawn Porter in 2019 for the WBC strap. He last fought in April 2022, beating Yordenis Ugas via TKO for the WBA welterweight title. That was his first fight since 2020, as he was recovering from a detached retina that forced a bout with Manny Pacquiao to get nixed.

Rumours of an unlikely massive ‘super fight’ with Canelo Alvarez have swirled in recent weeks, but two of boxing’s biggest superstars in ‘Bud’ and Canelo must first get past Madrimov and Edgar Berlanga respectively.

Round 2: Alvarez scored with a right hand to the liver followed by a left hook to the body. He later connected with a powerful overhand right. GGG has been patient thus far -- he's always been a slow starter. 10-9, Alvarez. 20-18, Alvarez.

Terence Crawford is set for his first fight since his career-defining win over Errol Spence Jr. this past July. Crawford, who became undisputed welterweight champion with his win over Spence, will make his junior middleweight debut against WBA champion Israil Madrimov on Aug. 2 in Los Angeles. A press conference is expected on Wednesday to formally announce the matchup.

The crawford fight card-Porter fight card broadcast will begin at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN+ PPV. The PPV card includes 4 fights, with an IBF middleweight eliminator between Esquiva Falcao and Patrice Volny as the co-main event. The prelim card will air live on ESPN2 and ESPN+ starting at 7 p.m. ET, and the early prelims on @ESPN at 6 p.m. ET.

This isn’t the fight many fans were hoping to see this year. There was excitement back in September when it was reported that Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. had agreed to a welterweight unification bout. However, that fell through.

It’s really a time for celebration, as this is a major fight that is happening while the fighters are unquestionably in their primes. Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, for instance, met in 2015 when both were past their primes. Would the fight have been more compelling or the outcome different if they’d fought in 2010? No one will know, but there’s an argument to be made that the answer to both questions is yes.

220px-Joan_Crawford_in_Humoresque%2C_194Adesanya's superiority in striking was evident throughout the bout. Cannonier landed nothing of real significance with Adesanya keeping him at a distance, picking him apart with jabs and kicks to the body and legs. The crowd grew restless with the lack of thrilling action, especially in the fourth round, which was marked by boos and fans holding up lit-up smartphones. But Cannonier did nothing to push Adesanya, a former champion kickboxer, into anything resembling a firefight. Adesanya, meanwhile, was content with safely landing strikes with his length from so far out that Cannonier could not counter them.
