Three other fights have been announced for the event with WBA junior welterweight champion Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz taking on Jose "Rayo" Valenzuela, former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. facing Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller, and Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares meeting for a third time in their career despite neither having fought since 2022.

Spence beat Kell Brook in 2017 for the IBF belt and Shawn Porter in 2019 for the WBC strap. He last fought in April 2022, beating Yordenis Ugas via TKO for the WBA welterweight title. That was his first fight since 2020, as he was recovering from a detached retina that forced a bout with Manny Pacquiao to get nixed.

Terence Crawford is set for his first fight since his career-defining win over Errol Spence Jr. this past July. Crawford, who became undisputed welterweight champion with his win over Spence, will make his junior middleweight debut against WBA champion Israil Madrimov on Aug. 2 in Los Angeles. A press conference is expected on Wednesday to formally announce the matchup.

The crawford fight card-Porter fight card broadcast will begin at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN+ PPV. The PPV card includes 4 fights, with an IBF middleweight eliminator between Esquiva Falcao and Patrice Volny as the co-main event. The prelim card will air live on ESPN2 and ESPN+ starting at 7 p.m. ET, and the early prelims on @ESPN at 6 p.m. ET.

This isn’t the fight many fans were hoping to see this year. There was excitement back in September when it was reported that Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. had agreed to a welterweight unification bout. However, that fell through.

Spence landed 187 of 707 punches according to CompuBox, compared to 117-700 for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Garcia. Spence controlled the action with his jab, racking up points in the early rounds with that weapon and a high workrate.

It’s really a time for celebration, as this is a major fight that is happening while the fighters are unquestionably in their primes. Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, for instance, met in 2015 when both were past their primes. Would the fight have been more compelling or the outcome different if they’d fought in 2010? No one will know, but there’s an argument to be made that the answer to both questions is yes.

Adesanya's superiority in striking was evident throughout the bout.
