WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrader mod by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item level upgrade upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and accessories. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item Level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will be less expensive, even if they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. It is Best item upgrade to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
